VOX MV50 Micro Valve amp

Mon Feb 11, 2019 1:25 pm

This amp is the Clean version of the Vox Nutube series. These are amazing amps for something the size of an FX pedal. The micro valve is the equivalent of an ECC83 and the output is a class D power amp. I have only ever used this amp once and even the drummer said WTF! My gigging days are over now so I'm selling this little beauty. It comes complete with the original PSU and is in the original box with instructions but of course you won't really need them. I paid £199 for this so I am asking £130 including post. It really is a lovely sounding amp for steel. I'm not saying it will do the Albert hall but it will certainly blow on small gigs. Cheers Dave.

Hey Dave,

Don't know if this ever sold?

What are these bad boys like for recording direct please? Is there a lot of noise or are they quiet? Looking for a portable studio pre-amp to warm the tone up instead of mic'ing with loads of noise.

I do have a Line 6 to go direct at the minute. No noise but the tone is a little sterile. Going into my dad's board is even worse for it being sterile.

Many thanks

Steven Hicken Jr.

Hi Steve
I have got one of these, it is a job to believe how powerful they are. I have used mine from time to time as a pre-amp in the studio for steel, and there is no hiss or buzz, they are brilliant little things.
I personally recommend these little amps.

Thanks Kirky for the information!

Just ordered one from Amazon now.

Steve, check out my previous post viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11428#p51659
This will let you hear the MV 50 at it's best when played by Dougie Stevens at a Gartcosh meeting, the volume was not turned up full and it was only played through an 8" speaker, if you use 2 speakers it powers out 50watts, the tone is great and can easily be adjusted to suit your taste.
Regards recording, the headphone socket can be used as a line out, and should give good results through mixing boards, hope this helps you in your quest and I look forward to hearing about the Yorkshireman who parted with his brass!
Cheers
Robert
P. S. You can damage your pinky when lifting it, your better play it safe and use a finger instead!

Thanks mate, your video was actually something that helped me pull the trigger tone wise. Just wanted to know if there was a lot of noise with the line out for recording. I'm tight, but £150 for a decent pre amp is a bargain

Steve, here is a copy of the specs for the MV 50, it's printed in English but you can read it with a Yorkshire accent ! :o
Glad the video helped, I was blown away by the sound of my gear and Dougie's playing. :guitar: :guitar:
Cheers

Nice to see the MacNeilage back online. I’ve missed your rotten poems! Looking forward to a winter of banter!

Recorded an instrumental with mine last night.
Sounded great even with dead strings. Got the fat 90s style Peavey sound I love but has more Fendery warmth where Peaveys can fall short.
I was dead impressed. I really wanted to change my strings but I've had this instrumental on a back burner for too long and I am away at the weekend... strike the fire whilst its hot.
Will get the video edited next week when I'm back.

It also carries my Pedabro's acoustic pickup signal very well too. Much better than the other amps in my house. I was getting worried about the capability of the pick up but in the end it was down to unsuitable amps.
