One of the biggest street festivals in Ireland, if not the biggest, all we need is good weather, the huge scaffold stage is erected accross the river which runs through the town, a three day festival, which is attended by thousands from all over, in this beautiful tourist town on the Atlantic Coast, sunday the 7th, is 'Country music extravaganza' I am playing with Conor Duffy, supporting top of the bill 'the Jimmy Buckley band' my second year in a row doing this fantastic festival

I love Westport. I have many fond memories of holidaying there and camping out at Westport House. I wish I could go this weekend, but I'm playing dobro in The Garth Mountain Boys bluegrass band at a Cider Festival on Sunday. They pay us in cider. Last time, the banjo player went home at 7pm and straight to bed, though he doesn't remember it  The harmonica player had to be carried home.

Wow Chris, that sounds like my kinda gig ! paid in cider ! last year we had a torrential downpour, which wrecked the gig, as people scattered for shelter, but i have just received a print out from MET EIRREAN, the Irish weather guys, who are based here at Knock Airport, where i work, and 2mo evening is fine and dry, i trust these guys, as did general Patton on june 5th 1944, as he delayed the invasion of Europe by 24 hours, till he got the all clear weather signal from the west of Ireland, they were right then, Maybe we can swap gigs next year Chris?
ps. sorry, i shouldn't mention the war!

wow! all these festivals, dont we just love it, i did one at Leeds about 8 years ago, some big park there, was it roundhey park? cant remember, probably too much cider, and we had the worst summer storms in living memory, our second song of our set was 'stuck in the middle with you' we never got half way through it, my fender twin, got a right soaking, but we got fully paid, thank goodness

FOOTNOTE !!!!! We had a fantastic night, weather was perfect, crowd was buzzing, magical atmosphere, we played support to the Jimmy Buckley band, who have Declan O'Haire on lead guitar and steel, Declan plays Sarahs old white excel, which still sports the name 'SARAH'
