Venues and Clubs - share your contacts?

Postby simon_f3 » Thu Jun 14, 2018 9:39 am

Hi All,
I had a quick look in the forum but couldn't find anything along these lines, so please let me know if I am duplicating something already done. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in compiling a list of places that put on bands/gigs, to make it a bit easier for steel players to get out gigging. I know most of the venues I play are quite 'niche' in terms of the music they put on (generally 50s rockabilly and rock & roll) and so I've struggled in the past to recommend venues to bands playing other genres.

To kick things off, if you play in a rock and roll band it's worth having a look at the UK R&R Gig Guide: http://www.rnrgigguide.com/v2/index.php There are contact details for all of the clubs if you click on the event.

And for country music, there are a few regular gigs listed here: http://ukcountryevents.info/map-regular-country-music-events/

Hope that's a help - please do let everyone know when and where you're playing. Personally I will do my very best to come and see you play, and will certainly let you all know next time I am playing steel guitar in public. Just don't expect much in terms of skill

Hi Simon, sounds like an excellent idea to me.
I can't vouch for any of these country venues or how up to date the info is but for the record:

Hi Simon
Up here in the frozen north (Newcastle) very few bands seem to stop over - it's either the big venues - Sage, O2 Arena etc or pub gigs in the main. Many tours don't come north of Manchester, or miss out the north east and head straight for Glasgow/Edinburgh.
One exception is the Gosforth Civic Theatre, where I recently saw Sam Outlaw, supported very ably on pedal steel by our own Matt Park.
Coming up in September is a rare appearance by Jim White - difficult to classify, but a great coup for a small, regional venue. I have my ticket already!!

Great idea Simon.

I run a honky tonk night in London and we're always looking for great classic country groups featuring steel guitar.

If anyone has a group and is interested in playing, please get in touch with me on here or email me at [email protected]

I'd love to support more of our forum members' groups.

Cheers.
Joe.
