Sho~Bud Shop Denmark Street

Thu May 18, 2017 1:29 pm

Hi Steelies.

Just wondering if anyone remembers the exact location of the old Sho Bud shop on Denmark Street?

It was well before my time but I've always been curious to know whereabouts - it'd be nice to know where to tip my hat to.

Thanks
Joe.

Probably not in my lifetime Joe, but you can never say never. The 70's was a great period for pedal steel, as it was really cool to be able to play one or have one in a band. Pop records suddenly had steel on them and even some rock bands loved the sound of the instrument. The Sho~Bud shop had many a famous face come in to take a look at this mythical instrument, but most of them were overawed and slunk out. The market for brand new pedal steels in the UK has now shrunk to next to nothing. There are lots of s/h guitars under beds or in sheds I would guess, as we sold over a hundred a year between Show~Bud (London) and the Steel Mill (Maidstone). Most of these will still be in the UK, and unused which is a crying shame. My buddy Ron Mawn told me countless tales about life in the Sho~Bud shop, and he was my last link to it before he passed away recently. :(
