New Sierra Review

Thought y'all might find this interesting. A review of the new Sierra 10 string, some innovative features on show here. Good review, but I just wish the reviewer had used something more pro than his phone to demo the tonal qualities but sounds pretty good all the same.

Checked out the Sierra site and this model comes in at $10k, so that's around twice the cost of a comparable MSA Legend, so two MSA's for the price of one

Looks like they are still working on their 12 and 14 string versions.

According to my unit converter this comes in at around seven and a half grand! I think I could buy two 18 year olds from ThaiBrides.Com for that, I dunno, I'll check with Bangkok Reg

Well I'd settle for one Thai bride and a Legend

Interesting features, many similar to an MSA but using slightly different methods. To me the mechanics look a wee bit clunky compared to the MSA, but the adjustable height on the cranks looks like a really nice feature. I'm not experienced enough to determine whether the gap between the neck and the body would make a noticible difference to the sustain or tone of the instrument perhaps someone else could comment on that.

The carbon fibre legs will be light but look a bit like swizzle sticks to me, I prefer the look of chrome, MSA legs are chrome plated aluminium so look good and are very light. They are using aged tonewoods so I guess that should improve the tonal qualities.

All in all, to me it looks innovative and probably sounds good and has good sustain / string definition, difficult to tell from this review due to the recording method used, but how many people are willing to part with that amount of cash?

(Probably not too many sales in Scotland though Haddock probably has that amount lying about in loose change )
