Gentlemen your comments opinions and valuation please?

I have just been sent this lovely old Selmer Lap steel, The picture of the chap playing it was taken in 1932/3 so exact age of the steel is unknown (at this time) I cannot tell you much about it but the short bit of lead going into the back of it is not coax it is mains lead!!! apart from missing a string it is all there but there is no case and I have been told the guitar was housed in the amplifier when it was used ... combined amp and case.
I will sell it for the lady if someone makes a decent offer .... after you lot tell me what that offer should be???? I would say with a good modern pick up fitted this would play very nicely

OK OK Already! after 52 views no comments no opinions we must conclude it has no value so maybe it is headed for the skip.........
but before it does I'm gonna have the electrics fixed on it..... and use it to play its own Swan song

Hi John,

DON'T SKIP IT YET !!!
I maybe able to shed some light on this lap steel (someone correct me if I'm wrong ).

What you appear to have is a 'modified' Selmer Trutone Universal 8 - 1948/49. Everything is there to suggest this,
the 'modification' is the body, rounded off & stepped, and no sharp edges, (as per the attached photo). Also check out the machine heads, they were normally fitted with single tuners.
Selmer did not make this particular model with a rounded body. Probably done many years ago for the original owner, and based it on the Esquire model of the early 50's.

Now for the good news, one of these sold in August 2015 for........ £930.35 inc Amp & case, in original ex. condition
and another, in March 2016, without case and amp. etc. in average condition for £220.

Question ??? is there a serial number?

Hope that gives you some idea as to pricing, I could suggest somewhere around the £200 mark ! (with a new set of strings & a good clean. )

[b]Thanks for the response Jim, your a little out on the date as the pic shows it being played in either 1922 or 1923 I did a little bit of Googling and I believe it was made by Selmer/Bundy in Elkhart Indiana in the 1920's you can find quite a few pics of the model, here is a link to a slightly newer one....

This guitar needs a new safe pick-up fitted as electrics were not safe when this was made.....but "as is" must be worth at least £150 I would think ??

John I have an old Selmer 6 string and it too is hard wired, no jack socket. Hope your hearing problem is better.
