Gigs in Italy - Baggage, ship or rent?

Trying to line up a few gigs in southern Italy later in the year, what's the best/cheapest way to get a pedal steel there? I did do this once about six years ago but it looks like everything's got a lot more expensive since then.

I think Ryan air is a £300 round trip for the PSG (£50 instrument fee plus £100 extra for being 10kg over 20kg weight allowance, x2 journeys).

I'm guessing I'm looking at over £200 round trip to courier it to an address in Italy...??

I'm putting feelers out for rental but I'm assuming that's a long shot.

Too far to drive in the time.

Is it even doable? I don't think we're under any illusions that we can make a profit but is there any way a five piece band can do three or four local bar gigs in the EU with a steel guitar and break even? Accommodation is free, we think we can borrow/backline the rest of the gear, flights probably £700... it's gonna be tight.

Any advice or experience welcome.
