Mr. Sandman

This is my version of the song, a very simple version, I would love to hear other peoples versions.

I have tried to put the backing track on here for you but it keeps refusing to accept it. If you want it, drop me a line!
Cheers Dave.

Ken the Pedal action on this guitar is really nice, I think the nearest I can compare it with is a a Emmons LeGrande I played a couple of years ago, also the MCI I used to have. Bent is at the moment making a new changer mech' for me. 1" rather than 3/4" and made of Brass which will be chrome plated. I built a steel a few years ago and used brass/chromed and the tone and sustain was brilliant. Like a fool I sold it. I'm looking forward to getting the new changer I think it will make a lot of difference. By the way I had a phone call from Pete (Haywood) last night talked for about an hour. He's such an interesting guy you could talk all night and never get bored, he was telling me how he is getting on with the "Williams" he absolutely loves it, and I tell you what with a bit of coaxing from people like you I reckon we can get him out there again playing. He is now solely dedicated to C6 and really enjoying it. Ken give him a ring and try and persuade him, it's people like you he will listen to. I must have a word with John Marsden as well, he may listen to him. Anyone else who wants to chime in on this do so and I will print it all out and give it to Pete to let him Know how much he is appreciated as he doesn't use a computer. If you want to hear the best there is write NOW.
Cheers Dave.

Hello Frank, yes of course I'd love to hear it. I just love the song and have never yet heard a steel version of it. About time you got your arse over here again, all that sun can't be doin' you any good, you need a bit of good ole' British rain.
Hope your both well.
Cheers mate, Dave.

Ken, just one other thing, you will never see the guitar move. I use the knee levers quite a lot but the guitar is so solid and the knee lever action is such that the guitar never moves, and it is not a heavy guitar. I see a lot of guitars move a lot from left to right or right to left when the knee levers are activated. Just thought I'd mention it.

Dave - I will talk to Pete. I have kept meaning to call him. One of his mates, Dave Wheelhouse (he of the Sheffield steel guitar) talks to him regularly and lives close to me. Next time Dave comes round to my house I will give Pete a ring and we can both speak to him. I'm a bit like him in as much as that I have cut right down on the gigs and am putting time into my C6 playing, although I am not in his class on that neck.

I have now got 4 pedal steels - a Sho-Bud, 2 Emmons' and a Zum. The lightest pedal action is the Sho-Bud (Pro 111), it's feather light. The smoothest is my push-pull since my mate Ron Mawn put ball bearings in the ends of the cross shafts. The Zum and the Legrande are very similar in pedal and lever action. I tend to hit my levers hard, and all of my guitars move a bit.

Bent's cabinet looks beautiful, and he obviously puts some effort into both the cosmetics and the tone.

Hi Friends,
Of course I couldn't avoid remarking when I read the nice words about my steel. Thanks to Dave for the remark about pedal action and sound. Thanks to Ken Byng and the rest for your positive remarks on the cosmetics and other things. I must again let my daughter in law, Jen, receive the kudos for the fancy paint job.
Yes, a new changer is on the horizon. It's going slow. The newly acquired milling machine takes some study and it seems every part requires a new jig being built.

A new steel is in the making. So far I am building another SD10, likely with 4 and 5 as standard pedal/lever setup. Log on to my Facebook and also Photobucket where I post pics as things progress.

Thanks again to one and all for your nice remarks!
