Carter Starter

I have heard loads of people critisizing the Carter Starter, well due to financial pressures, rather than be without a steel I bought one, and I have to say I was very surprised. I was under the impression they were a fixed outfit but it took me about 20 minutes to convert it to a "DAY" setup and away I went. This is the first number I've played on it, my honeymoon song asit was the only country song on the juke box in the bub we used called the Mermaid in Rhyl way back in 1981. Cheers Dave.

Well you sure made that sound nice Dave, there is no law to say you cannot swap the complete axles around if you want to degut the thing completely Tis only you and Al Brisco thats impressed me with one of those things! Well done mate!

Thank you John and Slim for your support, I reckon if people weren't so quick to cry these instruments down there may be a lot more young steel players around. The way things are it's very difficult to afford an expensive instrument like an Emmons or a Zum, Sho-Bud etc. Especially the new breed like Sho-Pro, MSA (Millenium) Rains and others that are retailing in the 2,3 and even 4 grand a time.
Instead of being encouraged to start with something like a Carter Starter folks are being told, no don't go there get a used Pro model this that and the other. This puts people off because they can't afford it so they never get to play a steel.

For anyone reading this John Davis will get you virtually any steel you want, (when available of course) so all you steelies out there please don't turn people away from the Carter Starter just because it's a student model after all most of the people I'm talking about are just that, STUDENTS. As for the ZUM Stage One I cannot comment as I've never tried one but I have been told they are far more expensive than the CS. I like this Carter Starter and if I'd bought one a long time ago I could have saved a fortune.
