Seeing the recent post on PF with Knopfler got me on a train of thought.
I was never a Dir(g)e Straits fan and always preferred Charlie Mann's cajun version of Walk of Life (bit biased, I pumped two steps & waltzes out of a squeeze box for over 20y!) so I listened to that version on youtube, which got me to revisiting a youtube of Daniel Cormier playing some cajun steel I remembered seeing on B0bs forum.



Love this style of steel playing.
Looks like back neck is some kind of open G tuning. Anyone dabbled in this style?

Murnel Babineaux & Joe Rogers are well known in the "milieu" of Cajun Pickers

Interesting to see style played on what I assume is standard E9 tuning.

It's a bit low to sound just right, cajun keys are mainly driven by the accordions which are mainly C or D boxes and typically played in C or G and D & A respectively. I found some old posts of Daniel Cormier on B0bs site saying he used standard C6 and held a pedal down to get an open G. I've never had a C6 neck so I've no idea how that works.

Watched those guys at Dallas this year in the Telonics room and main stage, fantastic players and really nice guys to talk to.Watched them show Mark Dunn some cajun licks, you would have needed two sets of hands to play.Really popular guys at the show.
