Some small progress,

Made a few small axle stands yesterday, not sure if I will use them on my project as they were from old scrap metal i had and have too many holes in them to start with but hey ho I guess they will be lighterto carry. As I don't have the luxury of a smashed up Emmons body from which to take measurements I am making a mock base to start with to be sure I get things right before my timber arrives then all I have to do is transfer the knowledge to the real plank leaving out the mistakes (I hope)

Your definitely not shy when it comes to engineering projects and I admire your courageous approach to tackling difficult problems!
A word of warning, don't let health and safety see the picture of that oversized drill bit stuck in a small chuck, it's bad enough if you're just using it for countersinking but if you're drilling holes that size open it up with smaller drill increments at a very Low speed, until your just clearing the final hole, the alternative Gung Ho approach could have everything flying around the room ( including yourself)

I believe a certain forum member has a supply of firewood to burn that just may have the hole positions your looking for!
The guitar looks great but did you just buy it to match your kitchen mugs, or have you got them colour coordinated for the steel? Looking forward to seeing and hearing the finished product sometime in the new TEIR or 2021 whatever comes in first!

Robert, the color coordinated pedal steel in the pic is my road guitar and needs no attention from me unless we ever get back on the road, then maybe a set of strings
It is a bolt on model and I am using it for measurements for my project that will also be a bolt on mech.

Am I to understand that a member of the Steel guitar community is going to to commit the ultimate sacrilege and burn an Emmons guitar. Surely that can't be right especially when John, (in my opinion) the most genuine helpful person in this community could use it. Well if it's true whoever you are you should be bloody well ashamed of yourself. I was under the impression members helped each other out whenever and wherever possible but I suppose there's always one bad apple.
