Sid, I do believe Mike Johnson used a Kemper when he toured here with Reba McIntyre. Ergo, it's got to be good!
I've never heard one myself, but I'm looking forward to the experience, one of these days

Using a Fender Super Twin atm, when I go out I've started using my Roland Cube again due to the multitude of hernias suffered lifting the Super Twin. It does have a great sound though, 180w of clean Fender valve power with an integrated 5 band valve graphic eq which allows the tone to be finely tweaked in conjunction with the standard tone controls.

I fitted McKenzie speakers into both the Fender and the Cube, they give a more mellow natural tone than the original speakers. Made in the 80's in the UK they were used a lot in Marshall amps amongst others and got great reviews at the time. They were taken over by Wharfedale in the 90's but sadly discontinued. The bottom end of their frequency response is lower than most other 12" speakers so they are ldeal for pedal steel. Old style magnets and chassis though which makes them heavy.

That's a good job, Geoff, 'cause I recall thinking the QE2 was too far up the Clyde, when in actual fact it was the bottom string on your lovely Legend. ah, halcyon days.

I may be wrong, but didn't Billy Murdoch have a Kemper modelling unit for sale in the last year? He might be the best bet to give an opinion.

haha, you guys are a crazy bunch

Mr. Mitchell, check and raise to red wine and paella (we'll have to wait until this darned covid thing is over, in the proper places you eat directly from the dish they use to cook it! no plates, just a fork!). Must admit it sure is hard to beat haggis neaps and tatties tho! Sounds awesome, haggis I've tried over there a couple of times (reminds me of a kind of blood sausage we do over here). Neaps and tatties I had to look up what it meant, haha

Seems like Roland Cube 80 is what most of you guys use (I understand it's the latest reissue?). I'd love to try out a Telonics!! Or a Steel King for that matter.

Totally agree with Mr. Byng on everything + NOS tubes are getting SO FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE. The new ones don't last as long but worst of all... definitely don't sound so good (not even close). I've fried a couple dozens of JJs already.

Here's a pic of my office (there's a tiny spot on the other side where I have my desk, hehe), I have a soft spot for old Fenders, especially the blackface era

Ken is correct,I did own a Kemper for a while. It was a superb amp and I had a few good presets installed. My favourites were The Nashville 400,The Little walter and a few of the fenders. I actually found it had too many perameters to tweak and it was a bit confusing.I probably had all My settings sounding very similar.I only once got to run the amp to the desk when I depped with one band, My regular band would not allow Me to go to the desk.I do not regret buying it but it was really not for Me.I think I get a better sound from the equipment I have retained.
It is a great amp for big time players who are on big stages and do not have a backline.I waited a long time for Vince Gill or Allan Jackson to ask Me to tour with them, I guess they lost My phone number.

Wow
That's probably the best appointed office I've ever seen. Respect due, Charlie, there are a lot of desirable objects in that tight space :guitar:
Mmm, and one dish paella and a red wine hits my spot. Arriba! Abajo! Al centro! Al dentro! :D

Billy, so, with the Kemper are you only getting it through the onstage monitors? Or, did you run a signal to an amp? Or, headphones? Just curious.

Hi Danny,
I used My 300 watt powered speaker when with the regular band,We do not use monitors.
The better set up would be to use My powered speaker as My personal monitor and run a
line from the
Kemper to the F.O.H and then to stage monitors.
Our vocalist/bandleader is quite firm about not going to the desk although He occasionally puts a mic in front of the bass drum???

I use a Peavey Nashville 400, which I bought in 1986. It has served me well in all those years. I think I get an acceptable tone from it, who can say.
I dread the day when it finally gives up the ghost, yes it is a little on the heavy side, but that's what barrows were invented for
One piece of advice I would give to anyone is this, you only have to carry it for five minutes, but you have to listen to it all night.

Asleep at the steel
