***Probably the best steel guitar built outside of the USA**

Postby Ken Byng » Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:57 am

I spent the afternoon at Dave Wheelhouse's place last Friday afternoon. We chewed the fat about pedal steel and its players, but primarily my visit was to take a gander at Dave's latest creation which he has called The Beach. The colour scheme (suggested by Dave's clever wife Debbie) represents a sandy beach at one end which gradually fades into varying depths of water. It's a stunning job and looks spectacular close up. I just had to have a play on it, and I was knocked out with the tone. Big bottom end and clean rich highs. As good as any pedal steel I've played and a notch or two above previous guitars of Dave's that I've tried out. I don't know what Dave did differently when he constructed this guitar but he needs to maintain it if he builds a son of a Beach. Here she is in her full glory.

Thank you Ken for your kind comments. Love the son of the "Beach" comment.

That is indeed a thing of beauty. I also loved the guitar Mr Wheelhouse made for Derek Thurlby, another beauty.
You turn out some quality guitars down Sheffield Steel way :guitar:

Questions; why the 'Sheffield Steel' name? Is it to align with the quality associated with said steel? Does Dave hail from Sheffield? Is he based in Sheffield? Are they, in fact made with Sheffield Steel? These are the the questions that plague the mind.

Thanks for that info Dave.
Your guitars are absolutely stunning, and when players like Derek and Ken praise their playability and tone.....................say no more :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

The other thing that I should add is that Dave stands by his guitars in the unlikely event that they develop a problem. 8-)

Fully concur in all that’s been said and yes to the fact that Dave stands by his guitars. I had problem with fast restringing and Dave sorted it immediately by developing the”Stealth” changer. British craftsmanship at its finest.
