It's a long way from 'Crazy Arms', Ken!
I can appreciate the awesome talent, but this is what my old mate Bruce (a drummer;-) called "skiddly-iddly" music.
Many years ago I used to see a band with an alto player who did all of this stuff - called himself Charlie Porker (and he was a big lad). Nobody else in the band could keep up! At least these guys can!! Love Buck's work with Lyle Lovatt.

Well it is right up my street Nick, and I much prefer to listen to that in preference to Crazy Arms. I listen to Charlie Parker and Ben Webster on sax and love what they do, so I guess it's why I like this clip so much.

Buck can play country until the cows come home, but he is at his best when improvising. Just goes to show what can be done on a steel guitar. Buddy Emmons used to rate Buck as the best and said "He will always be the best".

Skiddly-iddly came from those 'scat' singers from the 60's who used to sing "skiddly-iddly doo-be-doo ah-wah..." I can't remember the name/s of the worst offenders, but there were several!

Ella Fitzgerald was one of the originators of scat singing Nick. I have friends who just hate jazz music, but I think it's because they don't really understand it. Jazz improvisation is not everyone's cup of tea, and I can fully understand that.

Some jazz is very un-melodic, with inharmonious passages at times. However, Buck's improvisation is extremely melodic and musical. I guess it's because he has impeccable taste.
