DDNP Country / Thornhill steel guitar?

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has acquired this steel guitar recently and asked me to have a look at it and tell him what he's got. Having looked at it, I can see he has the body of some sort of pedal steel but with no legs, pedals, rods etc. The thing looks in pretty bad shape but I'm no expert and I've no idea what if anything he paid for it. I've attached a couple of pictures to this post.

So my questions would be:

1. Does anyone know anything about this type of steel guitar?
2. Based on the pictures, is it worth continuing with to get repaired?
3. (If yes to 2) Would anyone be interested in having a look and quoting for repairing it?

I have to say, having seen it, I have my doubts about the viability of getting a working pedal steel out of it but as I said I'm no expert.

Hag, looking at that I think to get it repaired and playable you would be peeing against the wind.......... tell him to bite the bullet and get a proper one
The trouble is, to be a steel guitar builder you need to be a player, there are a lot of good engineers out there who think" I will build a steel guitar" but its not that easy .... the ones that really succeed are the players that build ...... Ronnie Bennett, Dave Wheelhouse, Dave Seddon, Buddy Emmons etc etc etc

Looks like it could be a home made one to me - i.e. very non-standard. As John said, probably not feasible to fix, or if you did, would cost more than it's worth.

Not all is lost though - it could make a very nice lap steel. There are a few non-pedal 10 string players out there.
