Can anyone tell me anything posative about Carnow pedal steel guitars made somewhere on the South coast.? I have seen the advert, but I need to know if they are really a good guitar. Has any professionals really tested them out for: duribility , playability, sound , sustain and tone; has someone tested their performance guring gigs etc?? What are your thoughts onthis guitars ? Hi Jim
From what i read and seen, they are not a bad steel at all, maybe not as known as the US marques, but the build quality seems higher than the "starter type" steels.
Bernard has just recently finnished the last one,and is only supplying and parts as required.
Ron Bennett makes a decent steel up in the wirral, does quite a few models etc,and of course Dave wheelhouse in southampton does the "sheffield"
Best Regards

Hi Jim,i know Bernard ,and have played one of his steel at a steel guitar meeting, and i found it very very nice to play, sounded great and the build quality was as good as most of the pro models i have played. So i would not have any problems in using one of his steels for gigging, they are that good.

I have a Sho-Bud 3+5 with a Curnow undercarriage. Although I don't have any experience of other steels, I am delighted with it and am confident it will stand up to a lot of 'bashing' on my part! Will (don't know his surname but he's a regular on this site) has a blue Curnow that plays and sounds great!

Will Cowell, that's who I meant! He can be
contacted through this forum and I'm sure he'd be able to give good advice.

I would like to thank each one of you who have contributed to this topic. It is a pity that this steel builder has ended, when his guitars were so good . Jim taylor

Bernie was a toolmaker, and he believes there's only one right way to do a job. A bit of a perfectionist, you might say. I'm very pleased with my blue SD10. He will do parts. Now I wonder if I can get him to leave me his tooling in his will.... <evil grin>
