ZB Make-over by Bennett Steel Guitars

Mon Jul 23, 2012 3:10 pm

I recently had a beautifull ZB SD10 reworked by Ron Bennett. Before I sent the guitar to Ron, it was a nightmare to play.
The pedal and k/lever action on the guitar was really bad, due to the poor design of the "up-dated undercarriage"
The last batch of ZB Guitars were built by a gentleman called Basil Smith from Fort Wayne Indiana. Basil was tragically killed in a car accident a short time after he bought the company from the Bromley family.
Ron Bennett removed the changer and all the undercarriage, and started from scratch. He fitted a new changer and a complete modern undercarriage with 5 slot bell-cranks and the result is a superb playing steel guitar with great pedal action, wonderfull feel to the k/levers (short travel and positive stops) and retaining the class looks of the original cabinet.
If you are a ZB fan, and are thinking of upgrading your guitar, look no further than Bennett Steel Guitars. He does a great job at a very reasonable price. Thanks again Mr.Bennett

I have to agree with Ted, Ron converted my ZB D-11/10 way back in the early 1990's and a super job he did indeed although
he did remark that was the first and probably the last he'd do !!
All the best

Basil Smith was my Uncle, Just trying to correct the facts of prior posts. Basil was not from Fort Wayne, He was from Evansville In. Also he was not killed in the accident. He drove semi for a living as well, and had a heart attack that killed him before the truck crashed. God Bless...
