Anyone do a 5 way combination?

Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:03 am

Hi All
I found myself accidentally messing around with a diminished 7th chord using A and B down plus lowered E’s and B’s which on my setup is LKV plus LKR at the same time. After a little tweaking of the rate of change on the vertical, its a much nicer diminished than what Ive been using and it flows really nicely from the open chord. But it made me think, does anyone use a combination with 5 changes at once? Or any other 4 way combos? Just curious....
Cheers
Calum

And this year's Brit Award for "Continual PSG Envelope Pushing", goes to Octupus, the artist formerly known as Haddock.

Calum
A higher percentage of accidents can happen in the home, so try getting out a bit more, having five changes at once you'd need to be a contortionist instead of an octopus! :o
I am limiting myself to one C6th neck on my guitar, the amount of different chord progressions and where to get them is giving me headaches, that's on a total of 8 strings, you have 12 with too many bits of aluminium attached to count on one hand, so get a calculator and figure out all the permutations you can acquire before adding any more to the equation.
You are on a quest that will never stop and apart from yourself, the only other " inventor " I know of is a Mr Wallace, but he managed to get out of the house more when he walked his dog called Grommet, again think of the bother he got into!  :P
Sorry I can't add anything more sensible to this post or nominate you for an award, but I don't play pedal steel, so I'm in the wrong league and sticking to basics.  :guitar: :guitar:

Ok hands up, I know its silly! But it is a really nice change. I think of it like having a virtual lever in between the vertical and LKR. Vert is at 12 o’clock, LKR at 3 and the Bruce Bonus is at half past 1. I have a bigger problem on my LKL but only when wearing Wranglers. A small fold of material catches the lever when going for the vertical. Not a problem with cheap TK Maxx jeans. I’m willing to change to sensible shoes for playing steel but a trouser change is taking it too far!

Are you still working on that nose lever Calum?

I think a wrist changer would be quite sufficient for Jif's needs
For myself, I find a split changer more than enough for a 10 stringer - and, yes, I can get that diminished chord the same way - but I find the Lederhosen starts to chafe... Kilt wearers may have a different POV
We do suffer for our music

Here’s the prototype nose lever.

Once operational, the temperament of the steel can be adjusted by different nostril shape. A nice smile gives you an equal temperament and a scowl very bad temperament. Resting bitch Face settles on a nice Just intonation which is what I use. Hadn’t thought of the possibilities of lederhosen......
