Have strung up on 8 string the Tom Morrell version of E13. Now to get the hang of it. Initially not as easy as C6 but I have found a way of getting to grips with scales and finding my way round the neck. I have got the radio on and Sunday Love Songs is on. Am sitting here playing along with every tune that comes on. Well I know how to find the major scale s that's a help so plenty of single note stuff here. Now to get to grips with the chords.

Does anyone know a source for E13 chord charts etc. Seems to be very little about.

I found it Ken. The guitar map programme that was mentioned in another thread. I downloaded and ran it. It was set up for pedal steel so I went in and put in the tuning for E13 and discarded the pedal moves. Now I can happily type in a chord or any type of scale and it will show me all the notes in musical or numbering system. And I can print it out and sit away from the computer and practice.

This is going to be one hell of a training aid and I would suggest everyone has a look at this. Good for pedal and lap steel.

Hi Mick, I thought the "Morrell" E13 was for 10 strings. What notes are you using?

Hi Tony. I am discarding the bass notes as this is my first try - who knows I might change it as I progress. From high to low G#, F#, E, C#, B, G#, F#, E. although some may suggest using the E as the highest string. I like what I've heard so far and there are some lovely little runs. Have been playing a Tom Morrell inspired version of Blue Steel Blues using C6 and E13. The E13 is going to come in handy for those chromatic licks he uses.

I must say I am surprised at the lack of movement needed in some ares. Major scale for example you only need a one fret move and similar with a chromatic run. Just getting started so we will see how I progress.

OK. Some of you will say "Serve you right" but I have now decided to go for the regular E13. Tom Morrells tuning is definately for 10 string but I had to try t. That's me stubborn. The top two strings were very handy but I missed a bit more at the bottom. I didn't realise how may times a chord can appear along the neck so won't have far to go to make up for them.

Right - where are they - strings, wire cutters, tuner - here we go!!!!
