Very enjoyable topic but getting a bit unwieldy scrolling through all the pages. Might it be worth a new topic for a new lick?
Here’s a wee variation on the very first lick that John showed us for those with a vertical lever.

First chord as was with E's raised and A pedal but when you move to the next fret, drop the B's with the vertical with A and B down. Then over to the lowered E's again as you move to the next fret, A and B with the sleazy bend. It means you are avoiding the F note on chord 2 which is outside of the scale of E and two of the notes don’t move on the first change. Certainly gets the knee working and perhaps one day I’ll be able to play it......

Cheers

I agree with Haddock, new topic for new lick idea. But it is very enjoyable and educational to get different ideas for similar/same sound and for that of course it makes absolute sense to stay within the original thread.

Certainly gets the knee working Haddock, busy busy.

OK here is another idea!! As someone that plays by sound and not looked at Tab etc. I even find it hard to unpickle the stuff that Nick shows in his written description therefore I think Whoever organises a steel players meeting should devote a little time to showing how to record a little video ..... to me a picture is worth a thousand words and a moving picture even more!. I know that it's me that's at fault here and I have the attn. span of a Gnat but I can even steal a note from Mike Johnson when I can see what he is doing..... you can get an old camcorder for pennies now,,, you only have to plug it in...it really is that easy..
More Video Please??

John
Thanks for your postings and " comments  " even "lappy's" like me can follow your practical demonstrations and gain something from them, please keep them coming. :guitar:
It would be easy to get a camera for videos but it would leave a black mark around the wall when plugged in  , it's what you plug it into and the software required to get the results that beats me  , any takers on someone trying to educate the uninformed and start a new thread entitled " video and sound recording for dummies "
To end I can sum up this post by adding " you are my sunshine ;)" and for Haddocks benefit that's on page 3 of this topic :P :guitar: :guitar:
and not "Some old newspaper" :guitar:
Cheers Robert
No longer slummin, I’ve got a Mullen and a damn good amp as well,
they’ll be well played, if not played well, seat time alone must tell!

Oh how a thread can get lost...

Going back to John's Kinley Rice demo with B+C pedals, I was messing about and came across this -

Taking John's lick as a starting point fret 10, 3,4,5 - B+C, C pedal off, E lever engaged, then if you come back the same way, then move up to fret 12 and repeat the same move, come back to fret 10 repeat same move again, and resolve to D - lovely, and it reminds me of something, but it's just out of reach...

That's a great lick Nick, playing Emmons setup it works well for me, some serious twisting and turning, good excercise and sounds lovely.

Thanks, Johan! It has really grown on me and there's an 'earworm' - a tune I recognise but can't name - lurking just below the surface. It sounds a bit like a 'big finish' to a song, but I can't quite name it.
Anyone???
