Just wondered out of interest. Thanks guys.

Yes I have the standard Emmons lower change on my 9th Roy and use it a a lot as Willie will testify. Essential for many of course to give the feel stop change on the 2nd.

Stumbled across this in truth so have put a 9th raise rod on my C pedal which gives me a sweet alternative to the 4 & 5 chord change rather than using the usual B pedal and E lower or AB two frets up..

I'll stick a brief video up and let you judge. It's not a change you would flog to death but it is a real sweet C6th sounding alternative in a few places that you all may like.

Hi Bob, I think Gary Carter has that change. Looks like he uses it at the beginning (the second note) of that beautiful ascend at 2:06

I don't think on that passage he uses a 9th string raise but I could be wrong. I slowed it down to half speed and he strikes 10,9,8 but the blocking is really precise and at full speed you can miss the blocking, creating an illusion of a bend.

It all depends on what note you are raising the 9th string to for how it's useful. I know somebody who raises it a semi tone to a major 7. I have a different use for it which is to give me back something I lose with the PF 8th string pull on C pedal, although the lick at the end of this instrumental is something I've also found by having the change.

And 3:52 of this.

Although, just be wary of adding it to your guitars. I'm unsure of any possible 9th string chords you will lose by having this on a pedal/lever that could create direct conflicts. I did ask Paul Franklin about this but he didn't really give me a full answer of what I could lose. I did try and keep this little change a secret until I got it on a famous Britpop record but looks like the cat is out of the bag...

Hi mate he does strike 10, 9, 8, but the note he’s playing on the 9th is an F# so I think he has the 9 string raise engaged. So not a bend as such, but that it’s probably already engaged at the very beginning of the run (or straight after string 10 is struck of course).
