John Davis Tuition

Last night I had my first PSG lesson from John Davis and am glad to be able to say that it was the most informative and interesting lesson that I have had on any instrument.

John will often tell you that his knowledge of music is limited, but I would suggest that anyone who wants to learn to play with a good sense of melody and harmony could do no better than to spend some time learning from him. Also he is very open about the little tricks and "secrets" that he has picked up over the years and I know from experience that not all musicians are that generous.

I would, however, urge anyone who who does take up his offer of tuition to bring along some means of recording the session. This will help to ensure that the details do not get fogotten; especially useful to those of us who are more mature in years.

I was there too and it was a goldmine of moves and tricks. If only I hadn't been an hour late.. :/

As a complete newbie I would like to thank John for taking the time to check out my guitar and show me the basic starting points that I need to enable me to conquer this machine. Hopefully I will be in tune next time!
I agree with David that some form of recording the evening would be an advantage as there is way to much information to take in and practice at the same time.

On Monday 27th Sept, 3 of us got together with John. It was a great evening we learnt a lot and admired John's playing. You make it look soooo easy John
I would recommend it and as previously mentioned don't forget your recording device... (Most mobiles can record audio nowadays...)

Dont know if this is the right post to add my thanks to John for his hospitality,but I shall put it here anyway.
I had a lesson with John in early June & had a great evening. Another student was present,& they both made me very welcome. Dont stay at home noodling in the spare room-get out & meet others for inspiration and motivation. I got both from my evening with John;and learnt the extremely useful tip that there are many more places to find chords than just open positions or with only A+B pedals down.( and yes I am practising them John!)Thoroughly recommended.
