Hi All,
I hope you're keeping well. I've been stuck in a bit of a rut lately playing the same licks that don't really sound great, so I just wanted to share something with any beginners out there. Hopefully it'll get you moving again, or even better save you from getting stuck in the first place like I did.
I found a bunch of old videos from the Jeff Newman "Up From the Top" series on Youtube that explain a lot of the sticking points really well. His how-to vid on right-hand position is really helpful.
Anyway, I don't want to get anyone into copyright trouble here, so I'm not posting any links. But the most useful one I've found so far is how to use the D Lever. I wish I'd known about this earlier, because the low E>Eb lever and AB pedals on strings 5+8 are kind of the backbone to playing pedal steel. If you can get to grips with that, then you can start hanging other more interesting stuff on it.
Anyway, I hope you find it as useful as I did!
