Here's the track that got me seriously into steel guitar. It's as off the wall as Steady Eddie would like (see "Elparkiro on youtube" thread). The steel comes in at around 2.20. Have a listen and (if you don't know before) see if you can identify the rather unique style of this late player. I happen to love the build up of this electric folk track but, be warned, it ain't country!
Marc Ellington is an American born Scot-ophile who went on to become involved at high level in Scottish affairs, he was made Dept Leiutenant of Aberdeenshire a few years ago. Musically, he mixed in the highest of trans-atlantic circles. Tony.

Sounds like Gordon on the end bit with the harmonics..... in fact I would bet Frank Bloomfieds wallet on it....

OK - Ian Matthews did some backing vocals on the album and was probably how Gordon got involved. Yarrow had Sneaky Pete on steel, but Gordon played on three tracks on the LP, including Aligator Man (with Sandy Denny on backing vocals). The musicians list looks like a whos-who of the prog.folk movement of the day, Chris Hillman, Richard Thompson, Dave Pegg, Trevor Lucas etc. etc. There's great stuff on that disc.

a good track for sure, but im much more traditional steel than 'off the wall' really, i just like to hear tasteful steel outside of the usual genres, but i have to say there is a lot of 'steel' out there that i hate, hows this for off the wall, obviously a huge Gram Parsons influence here on these guys, i actually like it, even though its crap steel playing, make your own mind up !
