Replacement legs for ZB

Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:44 am

Hi fellow steelers, I was wondering if any ZB specialists out there know where/how I can obtain replacement legs for a ZB – the thread on one of mine is totally stripped, so it's always coming apart. Slightly annoying! I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are/were made from standard mike-stand parts… anyway, any advice offered will be most gratefully received.

Did you get any help on this David?

If not I have a temporary solution for you, I've cut a stud in alloy which will at least get you on your feet until you can locate a steel one.

I'm not doing much on engineering these days as I am too busy on other things but I had a couple of bits to make today so knocked this out at the same time! ( No worries if you are sorted already!)

1, I don't have steel around that diameter nor do I have the means heavy enough to cut ¾" BSW, it was struggle enough in alloy in the vise with a ¾" die nut!

I'm not sure whether your existing one is press fit or brazed in, if pressed it can be forced out, if brazed it would probably need to be cut and the length adjusted at the bottom on the insert leg, not ideal but it gets you going (your call)

Not a good idea to use aluminium, Bob.

An aluminium bolt threaded into an aluminium nut has a high probability of binding (galling)

How right you are Richard, I was trying to come up with a quick temp. fix. but there is a risk there is no doubt. Well greased it might be ok, short term but steel is the route to go for sure!

Thanks for the advice guys - Bob that's good of you to go to that trouble but if the aluminium option isn't recommended perhaps I shouldn't risk it. I can still use my steel perfectly well as is, so might go down the Beck parts route for a more permanent solution.

Cheers

David

Hi David,
I may a couple of ZB leg plugs somewhere in one of my boxes in the shed, so if you don`t get sorted let me know and I will have a look and if I can find them you are welcome to them.
